Medieval Engineers is Keen Software House's sandbox about building and maintaining architecture and machinery with fifth to fifteenth century technology. Castles, cities and fortifications are assembled block by block under a structural integrity model, so a wall that is badly buttressed will actually come down. Alongside construction there is landscaping, underground mining, mechanical devices and siege equipment, and an entire planet to spread out across. It can be played as pure creative engineering or as a survival game, solo or with others.

Structural integrity, siege damage and half finished castles all argue for a world that does not reset when one person logs off. A dedicated Medieval Engineers server keeps the planet, the terrain you have carved and every stone you have laid exactly where it was, so a build that takes a fortnight is safe between sessions. It also makes the interesting multiplayer possible: cooperative construction crews on one side, and organised siege battles where one group's trebuchets meet another group's walls.
