Here's how to optimize your Enshrouded server for better performance.
If you're seeing Server Overloaded or High Server Load messages in-game, this is a known issue that can happen. The official Enshrouded server software can have performance issues regardless of your server hardware, however, the game developers are actively working to improve server performance with positive results after recent updates.
Daily Restarts
By default, we include a configurable daily restart schedule for optimization purposes. This keeps your resource usage under control while ensuring your server has a fresh load once every 24 hours. Making restarts more frequent can provide even better results for Enshrouded.
To adjust your schedule, check out our schedules guide.
Check Resource Usage
If your server is experiencing performance issues, check your resource usage in the Game Host Bros Panel.
If CPU usage is constantly high (~80% or above), consider upgrading your CPU or restarting your server. Check out our upgrade server guide for more details.
Keep Players Together
Certain areas such as the Hollow Halls are known to be extra hard on performance. Players being spread out across the map also slows down a server over time.
Encourage players to stay closer together when possible to reduce the server load. This is one of the most important optimizations for high player count servers and larger communities.
Reduce Enemy Spawn Rates
Reducing enemy spawn rates can help with performance. This requires using Custom difficulty settings.
- 1Access the Game Host Bros Panel and
Stopyour Enshrouded server. - 2In the sidebar, go to
Server Options. - 3Find the
Difficultysetting and change it toCustom. - 4Go to
File Managerand open the fileenshrouded_server.json. - 5Find
randomSpawnerAmountundergameSettingsand change it to"Few". - 6Click
Saveand start your server.
Heavy building and high player count servers will always reach a limitation at some point. Even the fastest gaming hardware isn't able to run an Enshrouded server without issue in such cases.
