How To Upload An Existing Minecraft Bedrock World To Your Server

In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of uploading an existing world file to your Minecraft Bedrock server.

If you get stuck at any time, Game Host Bros offers free server transfers. Just reach out to a bro on Discord.

Danger

This guide only works with PC saves. Saves from Xbox Console, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms cannot be transferred to dedicated servers.

Did you know?

Uploading an existing world can also be a super quick way to mod your Minecraft Bedrock server, simply enable the behavior and resource packs you want on your world, and then follow this guide to upload the existing data to your server.

Exporting Your World

  1. 1
Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition and click Play to find your world list.
  2. 2
Click the pencil icon next to the world you want to export.
  3. 3
Under General, scroll down and select Export World.
  4. 4
The game will create a .mcworld file, save this file to an easy-to-find location on your PC.

Preparing Your World Files

  1. 1
    Locate your exported .mcworld file.
  2. 2
Rename your .mcworld file to .zip (for example, MyWorld.mcworld to MyWorld.zip).
  3. 3
Right-click the .zip file and click Extract All.
  4. 4
After extraction, you'll see the extracted world files. Create a new folder with a recognizable name (for example, MyWorld123).
  5. 5
Move all the extracted files into your newly created folder.
MyWorld123 (create me!)
level.dat
level.dat_old
levelname.txt
db
behavior_packs
resource_packs
world_behavior_packs.json
world_resource_packs.json

Uploading Your World

  1. 1
Log in to the Game Host Bros Game Panel and Stop your Minecraft Bedrock server.
  2. 2
Connect to your server using SFTP and enter the worlds directory.
  3. 3
Upload your existing world folder (For example, MyWorld123).
  4. 4
In the game panel sidebar, go to File Manager and open server.properties.
  5. 5
Find the line that says level-name= and change it to match your uploaded world folder name:
    level-name=MyWorld123

  6. 6
Save the file and start your server.

Once uploaded, your server files should look like this:

worlds
MyWorld123
level.dat
level.dat_old
levelname.txt
db
behavior_packs
resource_packs
world_behavior_packs.json
world_resource_packs.json
