How To Configure Your StarRupture Server

Your StarRupture server is configured from Settings in our game panel. Each time the server starts, the world and save settings are written to the server's DSSettings.txt file for you, and the password is saved separately, so there's no need to edit either file by hand.

Changing Your Server Settings

  1. 1
Log in to Bropanel and select your server.
  2. 2
In the sidebar, go to Settings.
  3. 3
Edit the setting you want to change. Each one is explained below.
  4. 4
Click Save & Restart to apply your changes.

StarRupture Settings

SettingWhat it does
[Basic] Server PasswordThe password players enter when they join. It must be at least 5 characters. The panel saves it, encrypted, to PlayerPassword.json. See setting a password.
[Advanced] Session NameThe name of the world (save folder) your server runs, found in StarRupture/Saved/SaveGames/. Up to 20 characters. Written to DSSettings.txt.
[Advanced] Load Saved GameLoads your existing world on start. Leave this on. Written to DSSettings.txt.
[Advanced] Save File NameThe save file loaded from the session folder. This stays AutoSave0.sav. Written to DSSettings.txt.
[Advanced] Save Game IntervalHow often your world saves, in seconds. The default is 300, every 5 minutes. Written to DSSettings.txt.
Automatic UpdatesRestarts and updates your server when a new StarRupture update is out. See updating your server.

Note

On older servers that already had a PlayerPassword.json before the panel managed the password, delete PlayerPassword.json in Files with your server stopped, then start it again. After that, [Basic] Server Password takes over.

Caution

Turning off [Advanced] Load Saved Game gives access to the in-game server manager, but we don't recommend it because of known game exploits.

Starting a New World

When your server starts, it looks for AutoSave0.sav in the folder named by [Advanced] Session Name. If that save doesn't exist, the server creates a brand new world for you, so leave [Advanced] Load Saved Game on. There's no separate new game setting to change. To start a new world and keep your current one on the server, change [Advanced] Session Name to a name you haven't used yet, then click Save & Restart. Set it back to the old name to return to your previous world.
