Squad is Offworld's tactical shooter, built around 50 versus 50 combined arms battles across 24 large maps and 13 factions, from the United States Marine Corps to the Australian Defence Force. Players group into nine person squads under a squad leader, dig in forward operating bases, run logistics for ammunition and construction points, and fight with picture-in-picture scopes and a suppression system that punishes anyone moving alone. Update 10.1 added Fireteam, a co-op PvE mode for up to five players built from shorter tactical missions.
Squad lives or dies on the culture of individual servers, which is why almost every serious community rents its own. A dedicated Squad server lets you write the rules, appoint admins with in-game camera and kick powers, set the layer rotation so the same map does not appear twice in a night, and run mods and custom maps from the Steam Workshop. Offworld also operates a server licence programme for community servers that want the full player count, and a rented machine is the usual starting point for that.
