How To Install Custom Maps On Your Sven Co-op Server

Thousands of community maps are available for Sven Co-op. Here's how to add them to your Sven Co-op server. When your server starts, our automatic FastDL copies the map's files from the svencoop folder and sends them to players when they join, so they don't have to install anything by hand.

Preparing Your Map Files

Custom maps usually come as a .zip, .rar or .7z archive. Extract it on your PC first with a tool such as 7-Zip. Inside you will normally find folders such as maps, models, sound, sprites and gfx, and often some .wad files.

  • If the archive contains a single svencoop folder, open it. Its contents are what you upload.
  • If the archive only has a .bsp file and maybe a few .txt or .cfg files, those all belong in the maps folder.

Caution

A map's scripts folder should only contain a maps folder. The Sven Co-op team advises treating anything else in there as suspicious and not uploading it.

Uploading Custom Maps

  1. 1
Log in to Bropanel and Stop your server.
  2. 2
In the sidebar, go to Files and open the svencoop folder.
  3. 3
Upload the extracted folders so they merge with the existing folders of the same name, for example the map's maps folder goes into svencoop/maps/. Upload any .wad files straight into svencoop/.
  4. 4
Start your server. FastDL copies new files once, while the server starts.

Note

The Sven Co-op manual suggests the svencoop_addon folder on self-run servers. On Game Host Bros servers, upload to svencoop instead. Our automatic FastDL only copies from svencoop, and only the gfx, maps, materials, models, overviews, particles, resource, sound and sprites folders plus .wad files, with the file types listed in our FastDL guide. If a map needs a file type that isn't listed, reach out to a bro and we can add it.

For a large map pack, uploading over SFTP is quicker than the web file manager.

Playing Your Custom Map

To start on the new map, set it as your [Basic] Default Map, or add it to your rotation. Both are covered in our map cycle guide.
