How To Set Up Races And A Rotation On Your Project CARS Server

By default, the first driver who joins your Project CARS server picks the race setup in the lobby. You can let the server control the setup instead, with one fixed race or a rotation that moves to the next race every time a race finishes.

Letting The Server Control The Setup

  1. 1
Log in to Bropanel and Stop your server.
  2. 2
In the sidebar, go to Files and open server.cfg.
  3. 3
Find the line controlGameSetup : false, change it to controlGameSetup : true and save the file.
  4. 4
    Start your server.

Setting The Races

The race setups live in the built-in rotation addon's config file, which the server creates on its first start.

  1. 1
Log in to Bropanel and Stop your server.
  2. 2
In the sidebar, go to Files and open lua_config/sms_rotate_config.json.
  3. 3
Under default, set the session lengths, flags, damage, tyre wear, fuel, date and weather that every race uses.
  4. 4
Under rotation, add one entry per race with its TrackId and either a VehicleClassId or a VehicleModelId, then save the file. Leave rotation empty ([]) to run the default setup only.
  5. 5
    Start your server.

Tracks, classes and cars can be written by name, for example "TrackId" : "Brands Hatch Indy" and "VehicleClassId" : "Road B". The file ships with two example races and comments that explain every option. When a race finishes and everyone is back in the lobby, or everyone leaves, the server moves on to the next race in the list.

Note

Leave the version line at the top of the file as it is. The server keeps its place in the rotation across restarts; delete lua_config/sms_rotate_data.json while the server is stopped to start again from the first race.

Caution

Keep the quotes, colons and braces in place when you edit these files. If the server doesn't come back online after an edit, check the Console for the line it complains about.
