How To Change The Match Settings On Your Trackmania Server

Your Trackmania server plays the game mode and tracks listed in a match settings file. By default that's MatchSettings/example.txt, which plays Time Attack on the 25 training tracks.

Editing The Match Settings File

  1. 1
    Log in to Bropanel and Stop your server.
  2. 2
    In the sidebar, go to Files and open UserData/Maps/MatchSettings.
  3. 3
    Open example.txt and make your changes.
  4. 4
    Save the file and start your server.

The file looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<playlist>
	<gameinfos>
		<game_mode>0</game_mode>
		<script_name>Trackmania/TM_TimeAttack_Online</script_name>
	</gameinfos>

	<startindex>0</startindex>
	<map><file>Campaigns/Training/Training - 01.Map.Gbx</file></map>
	<map><file>Campaigns/Training/Training - 02.Map.Gbx</file></map>
	<map><file>Campaigns/Training/Training - 03.Map.Gbx</file></map>
</playlist>
LineWhat it does
<script_name>The game mode
<startindex>Which track plays first, counting from 0, so 0 is the first track in the list
<map><file>One track, as its path inside UserData/Maps. The server plays the tracks in this order, then starts over

To play your own tracks, see Adding Custom Maps.

Using Your Own Match Settings File

You can keep several match settings files, for example one for Rounds nights and one for Time Attack, and switch between them.

  1. 1
    Log in to Bropanel and select your server.
  2. 2
    In the sidebar, go to Files and open UserData/Maps/MatchSettings.
  3. 3
    Use Duplicate on example.txt, then Rename the copy, for example to rounds.txt, and open it to make your changes.
  4. 4
    In the sidebar, go to Settings.
  5. 5
    Under Gameplay, edit Match Settings File and enter the file's path inside UserData/Maps, for example MatchSettings/rounds.txt.
  6. 6
    Click Save & Restart to apply your changes.

Note

If the file can't be found, your server doesn't start and the console says which file it looked for. If the console shows Unable to read the playlist file, a tag in the file isn't closed, for example a <map> line missing its </map>.
