How FastDL Works On Your Team Fortress 2 Classified Server

Your Team Fortress 2 Classified server comes with FastDL. When players join a server running a custom map or custom content they don't have, they download it over the web instead of slowly from the game server. There is nothing to set up: upload your files and restart.

How Does FastDL Work?

  • Every time your server starts, custom files in the tf2classified folder and in tf2classified/custom are published to FastDL.
  • Your server tells players where to download them, so sv_downloadurl is set for you.
  • Removed files stop being offered on the next restart.

These folders and file types are offered to players:

FolderExtensions
maps.bsp
materials.vmt, .vtf
models.mdl, .vvd, .vtx, .phy, .ani
sound.wav, .mp3
particles.pcf

Compressed .bz2 copies of these files are offered too, which makes downloads faster.

Using Your Own Download Server

If you'd rather host the files on your own web server, set a download redirect.

  1. 1
On your web host, upload the same folders (maps, materials and so on) that you added to your server's tf2classified folder.
  2. 2
Log in to Bropanel and select your server.
  3. 3
In the sidebar, go to Settings.
  4. 4
Under Modding, find Download Redirect URL and enter the web address of the folder that holds maps, for example http://fastdl.example.com/tf2c.
  5. 5
Click Save & Restart to apply your changes.

To go back to the built-in FastDL, clear the Download Redirect URL field and click Save & Restart.
