How To Change Voting Settings On Your Quake Live Server

Players on your Quake Live server can call votes to change the map, game mode, time limit and more. This guide shows you how to turn voting off, block the votes you don't want, and keep map votes inside your map pool.

Changing Voting Settings

  1. 1
Log in to Bropanel and Stop your server.
  2. 2
In the sidebar, go to Files.
  3. 3
Open the baseq3 folder, then open server.cfg.
  4. 4
Find the setting you want to change from the table below and edit its value. If the line isn't in the file, add it at the end.
  5. 5
Save the file and Start your server.
SettingDefaultWhat it does
g_allowVote11 lets players call votes, 0 turns voting off.
g_voteFlags0Blocks specific votes. See the table below.
g_voteDelay0Milliseconds after a map loads before votes are allowed.
g_voteLimit0How many votes each player can call per map. 0 is no limit.
g_allowVoteMidGame01 allows votes while a match is being played.
g_allowSpecVote01 lets spectators call votes.

Blocking Specific Votes

g_voteFlags is the total of every vote you want to block. Add up the numbers of the votes you want to turn off and use the total.

VoteNumber
Map1
Map restart2
Next map4
Game type (/callvote map campgrounds ca)8
Kick16
Time limit32
Frag limit64
Shuffle128
Team size256
Coin toss and random512
Loadouts1024
End of match map voting2048
Ammo4096
Item timers8192
Weapon respawn time16384

For example, to block kick votes (16) and game type changes (8), use set g_voteFlags "24". To keep a server on a single game mode, block game type votes and also keep only that factory in your map pool, since the end-of-match vote picks from the map pool.

Note

Factories can override these settings, and a few built-in factories set their own voting rules. See our custom game factories guide.

Only Allowing Maps From Your Map Pool

Quake Live only uses your map pool for the voting screen at the end of a match. Players can still call a vote for any map on the server. MinQLX can stop that, so map votes only work for maps in your pool.

  1. 1
Make sure MinQLX is enabled and essentials is in your MinQLX Plugins list, following our install plugins guide.
  2. 2
Log in to Bropanel and Stop your server.
  3. 3
In the sidebar, go to Files.
  4. 4
Open the baseq3 folder, then open server.cfg.
  5. 5
Add set qlx_enforceMappool "1" to the end of the file.
  6. 6
Save the file and Start your server.

Players can type !mappool in chat to see the maps and factories they can vote for.

These MinQLX voting settings also go in server.cfg:

SettingDefaultWhat it does
qlx_enforceMappool01 only allows map votes for maps and factories in your map pool.
qlx_votepass1Passes a vote that is about to fail when most of the players who voted said yes.
qlx_teamsizeMinimum1The smallest team size players can vote for.
qlx_teamsizeMaximum8The largest team size players can vote for.
