How To Connect To Your Quake II Server

Your Quake II server runs Q2PRO on the original Quake II network protocol. Here is which games can join and how to connect.

Your gameCan join?
Q2PROYes, recommended
R1Q2 or the original Quake II 3.20Yes
Quake II Enhanced (the 2023 remaster)No, use Q2PRO with the same game files instead

Tip

Q2PRO is a free, modern Quake II client. Get it from the Q2PRO releases page and copy its files into your Quake II folder, the one that has the baseq2 folder in it. You still need a copy of Quake II for the game files; the Steam and GOG versions include the original game alongside the remaster.

Connecting With The IP Address

  1. 1
Log in to Bropanel and select your Quake II server.
  2. 2
Copy the server IP address and port from the Overview page, for example 123.45.67.89:27910.
  3. 3
Open Quake II and press the ~ key to open the console.
  4. 4
Type connect 123.45.67.89:27910 with your own IP and port, then press Enter.

If your server has a password, type password yourpassword in the console before you connect.

Note

Your server is listed on the Quake II master servers, so it also shows up on server lists like q2servers.com. It can take a few minutes for a new server to appear. Joining by IP always works.

Capture The Flag

To join a server running Capture the Flag, your game needs the ctf folder from the Quake II 3.20 point release. Most Quake II installs already have it.
