How To Connect To Your Quake Server

Your Quake server is a QuakeWorld server, the online version of Quake, so you join it with a QuakeWorld game such as ezQuake. Here's how.

Your gameCan join?
ezQuake (installed by nQuake)Yes, recommended
FTEQW and other QuakeWorld gamesYes
Quake on Steam or GOG (2021 re-release)No, it can't join QuakeWorld servers
Original WinQuake or other NetQuake gamesNo

Tip

The free nQuake installer sets up ezQuake for Windows, Linux and macOS with the shareware episode. Point it at your pak1.pak from Steam or GOG if you own Quake, it's optional for deathmatch. Maps you're missing download automatically when you join.

Connecting From the Server Browser

  1. 1
Open ezQuake and choose Server Browser from the main menu.
  2. 2
Press Space to scan for servers, then find your server by its name and double-click it to join.
  3. 3
If you set a server password, open the console with ~ first, type password yourpassword and press Enter.

Note

It can take a few minutes for a new server to appear in the server browser after it starts. Joining by IP always works.

  3. 3
Open ezQuake and press ~ to open the console.
  4. 4
If your server has a password, type password yourpassword and press Enter.
  5. 5
Type connect 123.45.67.89:27500 with your own IP and port, then press Enter.

Once you're in, type ready in the console to start a match, or see game mode for the other modes.
