How To Upload A World To Your Don't Starve Together Server

Here is how to move a world you played on your PC, or on another host, to your Don't Starve Together server.

If you get stuck at any time, Game Host Bros offers free save transfers. Just reach out to a bro on Discord.

Finding Your World On Your PC

  1. 1
Start Don't Starve Together and click Host Game.
  2. 2
Click the Manage World button to the right of your world.
  3. 3
If your world is a Steam Cloud save (it shows a cloud icon), click Convert To Local Save first. A cloud save isn't kept in folders you can upload. You can switch it back with Convert To Cloud Save once your world is on your server.
  4. 4
Click Open World Folder to open your world's folder.

Each world is a Cluster folder inside the folder with a long number as its name:

Documents
Klei
DoNotStarveTogether
123456789
Cluster_1
Caves
Master
cluster.ini

On Linux and the Steam Deck there is no Open World Folder button: the DoNotStarveTogether folder is in ~/.klei in your home folder. To check which Cluster folder is your world, open its cluster.ini and look at cluster_name.

A world from another host has the same Master and Caves folders. Download them from that host's file manager.

Uploading Your World

  1. 1
Log in to Bropanel and Stop your server.
  2. 2
In the sidebar, go to Files and navigate to DoNotStarveTogether/config/server.
  3. 3
Delete the Master and Caves folders there. Download a backup first if you want to keep the current world.
  4. 4
Upload the Master and Caves folders from your world. If your world has no Caves folder, upload only Master.
  5. 5
    Start your server.

Don't upload cluster.ini: your server keeps its own. The server name, password, max players and other options come from Settings, so set them there. Mods turned on in your world's modoverrides.lua are downloaded on the first start.

Tip

A world has many small files. For a faster upload, use SFTP to upload whole folders.
