How to Change Your Minecraft Server Icon

This is what you do if you want to change the server icon of your Minecraft server. The icon shows next to your server name in the Multiplayer server list. Minecraft reads it from a file called server-icon.png in your server's home directory. This works on Java Edition only. Bedrock Edition servers don't use server icons.

Changing Your Minecraft Server Icon

The fastest way is to click the icon in Bropanel. You can pick a PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, AVIF or BMP image up to 8MB. Bropanel crops it to a square and resizes it to 64x64 pixels. It then saves it to your server as server-icon.png.

  1. 1
Log in to Bropanel and select your Minecraft server.
  2. 2
Click the icon next to your server name at the top of the page. It shows Change server icon when you hover over it.
  3. 3
Choose an image from your PC. Bropanel uploads it and shows Server icon updated when it's done.
  4. 4
    Restart your server.

Tip

Use a square image for the best result. Wide or tall images are cropped to the middle. Transparent backgrounds stay transparent.

Manually Adding a Server Icon

You can also make the icon yourself and upload it with Files or SFTP. Minecraft only loads a 64x64 PNG. It ignores any other size or format.

  1. 1
Resize your image to 64x64 pixels in an image editor and save it as a PNG named server-icon.png.
  2. 2
Log in to Bropanel and select your Minecraft server.
  3. 3
In the sidebar, go to Files.
  4. 4
Upload server-icon.png to the home directory of your server, next to server.properties. Replace the old file if there is one.
  5. 5
    Restart your server.

Troubleshooting

The New Icon Doesn't Show

  • Restart your server after changing the icon. Minecraft loads server-icon.png when the server starts.
  • In the Multiplayer menu, click Refresh. Your game keeps the old icon until it pings the server again.
  • Check the file name. It must be server-icon.png in lowercase. Windows hides file extensions by default, so make sure the file isn't named server-icon.png.png.

Couldn't Load Server Icon

If your Console shows Couldn't load server icon or Must be 64 pixels wide, the file is the wrong size or format. Use the click-to-upload method above and Bropanel fixes the size for you. If you made the file yourself, make sure it's a PNG that is 64x64 pixels.

The Icon Can't Be Clicked

  • Only Minecraft Java Edition servers show the upload. Bedrock servers don't read server-icon.png.
  • Subusers need file permissions to change the icon. Ask the server owner to update your subuser permissions.
