How To Add Bots To Your Quake 4 Server

Bots give your Quake 4 server someone to fight when only a few people are on. Your server uses SABot, a bot mod for Quake 4 1.4.2 that plays Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Tourney, Capture the Flag and the other game types on every stock map. The bots join when the server starts and stay for the whole session.

Adding Bots

  1. 1
Log in to Bropanel and select your server.
  2. 2
In the sidebar, go to Settings.
  3. 3
Under Gameplay, find Bots and enter how many bots should play, for example 4.
  4. 4
Click Save & Restart to apply your changes.

Set Bots to 0 to turn bots off. To change how good the bots are, see Bot Skill.

Caution

Bots don't work with another mod, so leave Mod empty.

Note

Bots count toward Max Players, and your server always keeps at least one slot free for real players. In team game types, the bots split between the Marines and the Strogg. Bots know their way around every stock map. On custom maps they need navigation files made for SABot, otherwise they stand still.

Joining a Server With Bots

Players don't need to install anything. The first time a player joins while bots are on, their game downloads SABot (about 20 MB) from your server and loads it by itself. Your server always has downloads on while bots are on, even if Allow Downloads is off.
