How To Install The Game Files On Your Quake 4 Server

Quake 4 is still sold, so your server needs a copy of the game files before it can start. If the server says in the Console that the game files are missing, give it your own copy of Quake 4.

You can give your server any of these:

  • Your Quake 4 disc images as .iso files, either the DVD or every CD.
  • A .zip, .7z, .tar or .rar archive of your Quake 4 folder, or of just its q4base folder.
  • The files pak001.pk4 to pak012.pk4 and zpak_english.pk4 from your q4base folder.

The Steam version works too: right-click Quake 4 in your Steam library and pick Manage and then Browse local files to find the q4base folder.

There are two ways to get them onto your server: upload them, or give your server a download link.

Uploading The Game Files

  1. 1
Log in to Bropanel and Stop your server.
  2. 2
In the sidebar, go to Files.
  3. 3
    Navigate to game-files/.
  4. 4
Upload your disc images, your archive or the pak files. These files are large, so SFTP is the easiest way.
  5. 5
    Start your server.
  1. 1
Upload your disc images or your archive somewhere that gives you a direct download link.
  2. 2
Log in to Bropanel and select your server.
  3. 3
In the sidebar, go to Settings.
  4. 4
Under Basic, edit Game Files URL and paste the direct download link. For several disc images, paste a link to each one, separated by spaces.
  5. 5
Click Save & Restart to apply your changes.

The server only downloads the files again when you change the link, so it doesn't download them on every restart.

Checking The Import

When the server starts, it imports the game files and the console shows [game files] Imported N game data files. After that, the server deletes the upload or download to free up space. It only keeps the pak files it needs, and the server already has the 1.4.2 patch, so you don't need to patch your copy first.
