How To Set A Password On Your Starbound Server

Starbound has no single server password. Instead, your Starbound server can turn away players who don't log in with an account you create. Each account has a name and a password, and players enter both when they join.

Making Your Server Private

  1. 1
    Log in to Bropanel and Stop your server.
  2. 2
    In the sidebar, go to Files.
  3. 3
    Open the storage folder and open starbound_server.config.
  4. 4
    Find the allowAnonymousConnections line and change true to false.
  5. 5
    Find the serverUsers line and add an account inside its { }, as shown below.
  6. 6
    Save the file and start your server.
"allowAnonymousConnections" : false,
"serverUsers" : {
  "friends" : {
    "admin" : false,
    "password" : "YourPasswordHere"
  }
},

Give your players the account name (friends here) and the password. When they connect, they enter them in Account and Password.

To add more accounts, put a comma after an account's closing } and add the next one:

"serverUsers" : {
  "friends" : {
    "admin" : false,
    "password" : "YourPasswordHere"
  },
  "alex" : {
    "admin" : false,
    "password" : "AnotherPassword"
  }
},

Note

Keep the quotes, braces and commas as shown. If the file has a mistake, your server won't start and the console shows the line to fix. To open your server to everyone again, set allowAnonymousConnections back to true.
