Valheim difficulty settings are controlled through World Modifiers, which let you adjust combat difficulty, resource rates, death penalties, raid frequency, portal restrictions, build costs, enemy aggression, raid triggers, fire spread, and the map. This guide shows you how to change difficulty settings on your Valheim server and how to reset them if needed.

Changing World Modifiers

Log in to Bropanel and select your server.

In the sidebar, go to Settings.

Under Gameplay, find the World Modifier setting you want to adjust.

Make sure Reset World Modifiers is Enabled.

Valheim World Modifiers List

Modifier	Options	Description
Combat	Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard	Adjusts how much damage enemies deal and take.
Resources	Much Less (0.5x), Less (0.75x), Normal, More (1.5x), Much More (2x), Most (3x)	Adjusts the amount of resources gathered from farming and drops.
Death Penalty	Casual, Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, Hardcore	Adjusts what you lose on death, ranging from keeping your gear equipped to losing all items and skills.
Raid Rate	None, Much Less, Less, Normal, More, Much More	Adjusts how often enemy raids occur.
Portals	Casual, Normal, Hard, Very Hard	Adjusts what materials can be sent through portals, from everything to nothing.
No Build Cost	Enabled, Disabled	Building pieces cost no materials once unlocked.
Passive Enemies	Enabled, Disabled	Enemies won't attack until provoked.
Player-Based Raids	Enabled, Disabled	Raids trigger off each player's own boss progress instead of the server's.
Fire Hazards	Enabled, Disabled	Wood can catch fire and spread anywhere in the world, not just the Ashlands.
Show Map	Enabled, Disabled	Toggles the in-game map on or off. Disabling it hides both the full-screen map and the minimap.

Tip

Reset World Modifiers applies the World Modifiers set here on every restart, so as long as it's enabled you can change existing World Modifiers just by adjusting the settings above and restarting.

If you'd rather set World Modifiers or keys from in-game using console commands, disable this setting first, otherwise your panel settings will overwrite them on the next restart.

Resetting World Modifiers

If Reset World Modifiers is disabled and you'd like to change existing World Modifiers set in-game, you may need to follow these steps, here's how it's done.

Enable console, then connect to your server as an admin following our Valheim Admin Guide

Open console with F5.

Type devcommands.
- You should see devcommands = true.

Enter these commands, setworldpreset default and then save.

Tip

Press F1 and you'll now see that your World Modifiers have been cleared.

setworldpreset default will clear your existing world modifiers; save will initiate a save of your server.

Once done, refer to the above steps here to set new World Modifiers.
